Bart Grudka · Head of E-commerce

I run e-commerce.
And build the systems behind it.

Head of E-commerce at an 8-figure Shopify Plus brand with 1M+ customers. I lead the team, own the P&L and build the automation that keeps both moving. Remote-first.

Who I am, in one paragraph

I'm Bart Grudka, an e-commerce lead and Shopify Plus engineer based in Poland, working on US and EU hours. I've run CANDEV, my web development studio, since 2013. From 2020 to 2026 I was the third employee at an 8-figure Shopify Plus brand, first as Head of Front-end and then as Head of E-commerce, owning the P&L and building the automation behind it: order placement by API, a live shipping rate engine, subscription rescue, catalog and pricing systems. I'm open to remote Head of E-commerce and senior e-commerce roles, and I take on Shopify Plus engineering work through CANDEV.

Scope

What I own, and what comes next.

TeamLed a front-end team of 2 to 6 for five years. Since 2025, the whole e-commerce operation: AI agents do the volume, people make the calls, and I stay close enough to the code to unblock either.
Commercial ownershipThe store's revenue and margin targets from the e-commerce side: conversion rate, average order value, A/B testing, catalog growth and catalog correctness.
TradingAll of merchandising, pricing strategy and retention. Acquisition and customer service run through me whenever they touch the store.
When things breakThe person every team calls when something fails, whichever system it lives in. Diagnose, fix, then automate the fix so it stays fixed.
Systems I built

Real store, real numbers.

Six systems from one Shopify Plus operation. Three that moved the commercial numbers first, then the ones that removed the manual work. Measurement windows noted.

01 · Listing pipeline & repricing

Listing and pricing on autopilot. 6x channel growth.

Two distributor feeds that disagree, one product under several codes, mismatched units. The pipeline normalizes and matches before writing anything, lists 70,000 SKUs with images, variants and metafields, verifies them against source, and reprices against the market.

Node.js · Python · Postgres · Shopify Admin API · n8n · Cloud Run
70,000SKUs listed
0Manual listings
02 · Live shipping rate engine

Shipping rates that pay for themselves.

Live rates from a hosted engine (six international zones, holiday-aware windows) instead of static tables. A Checkout UI extension warns when an order will arrive in two shipments. Margin up, checkout conversion flat.

Economy$6.95
Priority$12.40
Express$24.80
Arrives in 2 shipments
15 to 20%Shipping margin after launch, from break-even
FlatCheckout conversion, monitored at checkout level

03 · Subscription retention

Out of stock shouldn't mean cancelled.

A five-figure subscriber program was losing revenue to its own catalog. One system spots charges about to fail on an out-of-stock SKU and offers a swap first. Another ranks replacements for discontinued products by vector similarity. A human confirms.

77%of failed subscription charges traced to one fixable cause
4xCancellation save rate, 6% → 24%, yearly average

04 · Dropship order automation

Every order placed by API. None by hand.

Webhook intake, validation, routing to the cheaper distributor, placement via API, tracking synced back. Median fulfillment 3.15 to 1.24 days over a 3-month window; same or next-day shipping from 4% to 41%.

05 · Storefront rebuild

Rebuilt live. Conversion doubled.

Full theme rebuild on a live store during a rebrand. No downtime, no traffic drop, metafields so merchandising edits copy without a developer. Store-wide conversion rate 2x across the 2022 rebuild.

06 · GEO and AI-search program

From zero to 300,000+ search impressions.

Technical SEO, structured data and a content architecture built for AI answers. 300,000+ impressions in six months, six pages in the top 10, six pages cited in Google AI Overviews, one named by title inside the answer.

How I work

Find the opportunity, then build it.

1Own the full cycleResearch, design, code, launch, then the numbers afterward. With a team, that means I can scope, review and unblock instead of only assigning.
2Ship dark, then flip switchesEvery automation goes live behind a master switch and per-capability toggles. Each piece proves itself and can be pulled back without a deploy.
3AI does the volume, people make the callsAgents run the catalog, orders and reporting. People approve the exceptions and decide what to build next. That is how a small team runs what used to take a large one.
Currently open Head of E-commerce and senior e-commerce roles. Remote, B2B or EOR. Plus a small number of Shopify Plus projects through CANDEV.
